Fisherman's Taco

There's nothing better than Taco Del Sol. It seems like everyone is craving it all the time; nobody can get enough of that good old downtown burrito-rolling, foil-shaping, fish-and-mission restaurant. The only downside to Taco Del Sol is that it closes at nine, so when we were desperately craving a fish taco around 9:30 last night, we sought to recreate our own. They turned out far better than expected, complete with corn tortillas, cabbage, quacamole and white sauce (we used a brand of tartar sauce called Marina which was about as close to the real thing as you can get). The night was nothing short of a grand success.ImageImage

The Mountain Game

Everybody loves folfing. Those who claim not to haven't tried hard enough. It is a uniquely Blue Mountain experience to find boys and girls both tall and short, young and old, amateur and professional, high and drunk. And all that during the walk between holes 12 and 13. The crowded course sometimes has its drawbacks, but a lot of the fun of the sport is having to maneuver around other groups. So I welcome you to join the crowds on the mountain. However, if you are going to 9-putt every hole, then I'll be playing through you.ImageImageImage- N

ISA Food Festival

The International Food Festival is going on in Missoula today. We enjoyed Cambodian yellow curry and black rice pudding, Greek baklava and Latin American empanadas among other treats. The University Center was bustling with tons of people. I guess the love for good smells and great flavors does not discriminate by culture.

A Walk

Mt. Sentinel is my favorite place to go walking. Usually, I run up the trail, but today we just took a walk. It was almost warm enough for bare feet and Chacos, but last minute, we felt the need for socks as well. Being on Mt. Sentinel makes me feel so good; at the end of the week when all I want to do is be alone or be outside for a little while, the breeze and the view leave me feeling calm. We didn't quite make it to the backside today, but that's where it's most beautiful.  I am usually the only one on the whole mountain, while the rest of Missoula is just below the last rounded hill. I'll bring my camera to the very top sometime, but for now, I'll just leave you with some shots of a lovely Friday afternoon.ImageImageImage

An Ultimate Spring Kick-Off

Another reason to start pulling out your shorts for spring: Ultimate is in the air. Both K and I had our first collegiate Ultimate tournament over the weekend. But although playing outside made us even more excited for Spring, we were still victims of snow and rain in wet, wet Seattle. We had a great time playing and being with friends. You know it's all good when your buddy has a PBR in one hand and a disc in the other. I also got some photos of a few of K's teammates getting especially decorated. Believe us, it was colder than it looks. And it was a swampy 8 hour drive home as well, but that's what Spring is all about. Right?

To Market

I can't wait until May when the farmers' market starts up again. There's something just so satisfying about buying truly fresh produce. But until then, I'll just have to settle with the weekly trip to the grocery store, an occasion that can sometimes be as frustrating as it is fun. A few nights ago, I experimented with some asparagus and stumbled upon a delicious mix with parmesan cheese, garlic chips, onion and pasta. If only I could be that creative every school night...

Spring Forward

The sun tried so hard to hang around Missoula last week. It stayed for two days and gave everyone around here spring fever. Once we adjust to one less hour of sleep, the lighter evenings will be so lovely. Soon, more sun will mean more walks downtown, more river swimming, eating bratwurst in the garden, throwing the frisbee in the yard and walking to Big Dipper in the evening. We'll gladly concede an hour of sleep for all that.

First Impressions

We've decided to start a blog together. It's intimidating. But since it is Spring and we're feeling photographically bold, we thought we ought to join the club. Since the first post is always the hardest, we'll end it here and leave you with some first impressions.
