We Went to Glacier

One more view, one more camping trip before school starts. The last night was the coldest. I woke up in my tent so chilled, knowing this meant autumn was coming. And with autumn comes books and classes. But this trip was one of the best parts of the whole summer. We were caught in a thunderstorm one day while canoeing across the lake. We listened to loons in the evening. We saw all the stars reflect so perfectly in the water that it felt like we were floating among them. As we packed our campsite, Kara pulled the registration tag off the site post and told us that she was going to keep it in her journal. So that when she was soon knee-deep in homework and classes she could find it and remember that summers do exist.

The Loveliest

We had another backyard dinner party at my house this time. We ate caramelized fennel and goat cheese flatbread and had this Citrus Cake for dessert. The cake was by far the prettiest we've ever made, but of course, my camera died before I was able to capture it. Don't worry though- you can see Jenna's photos of the evening (and cake) here.

He's Coming Home

I've had a lot of time for friends and family (frisbee, bike rides, visiting the fair, floating the river and playing with my dogs) and it's been so good. But tomorrow Nate comes home, and it's going to be good times ten.

This picture is from our coastal road trip this summer.

Garden Night

We had a small dinner party in the backyard of a friend's house last night. Our plates were filled with zucchini from her garden and roasted potatoes from the farmers' market. And for dessert we smothered vanilla ice cream with homemade rhubarb strawberry compote. We sat in the grass until the sun dropped and cuddled with the sweetest three-legged-dog in the world. We can feel school creeping closer and are filling August with as much summerness as we can.

The Michigan Sea

Well I'm still out on the road (in Marion, IN tonight), but we did finish one portion of the trip when we left Orchard Beach State Park near Manistee, MI. Lake Michigan never ceases to amaze me. It is the ocean come to visit the inland. And as I have been known to say from time to time, "there ain't no lake like a Great Lake."

And Again

One more round of pictures from our camping trip: We spent a few days in Northeastern Washington on our way back into Montana. It offered sights so different from the Cascades. Silver sagebrush swept all the way to the horizon and sharp rust colored Cliffs cropped the Columbia river. The last morning before we drove back, my brother and sister and I woke to climb Steamboat Rock before the sun came up. The whole place just glowed red. It was magnificent.

Time Apart

It's been a while since Nate and I have spent three weeks apart. He headed East while I headed West. He's car tripping to the Midwest to visit friends and family and I just arrived home from a camping trip in Washington's North Cascades. Finally, I am home for good and I'm so excited to enjoy all the summer adventures that Missoula has to offer (and of course, watch as much of the Olympics as possible). This first set of photos was taken on a hike into Lake Diablo in North Cascades National Park.
